Mumbai Armaggedon continues

Islamist militants, after a day of bloody confrontation, made another attack on Mumbai yesterday leaving 125 dead and over 300 injured.

Terrorists attacked for the first time on Wednesday evening, aiming at the most busy spots in Mumbai. Over 24 hours, gangs of heavily armed young men had attacked a hospital, a railway station, popular restaurants and two luxury hotels. Anti-terrorist and commandos were engaged in fighting around the two hotels the Taj Mahal and Trident that has been seized.

“Four boys run into the hotel, they were wearing black t-shirts and jeans, they started shooting wild, people were screaming and running away. Those were just seconds, seconds of the unbelievable fear.” said the 25 year old Inam in ‘Times of India’.

Yesterday evening dozens of hostages were still being held and over 100 people were barricaded in Tai Mahal hotel. Hotel’s guests were trying to escape through the windows, climbing down the drainpipes, one of them died trying to flee.

Indian authorities counted about nine foreign victims of the attack and this number is undoubtedly set to rise.

“They were looking for Americans and Brits” reported some of the hotel’s prisoners.

The reasons of the attack are still unknown. A spokesman, claiming to be one of the attackers, called an Indian broadcaster saying that everything that had taken place was in revenge for the persecution of Muslims in India.

According to the military Pakistani nationals are responsible, however Pakistan has condemned the attack and has offered aid.

Manmohan Singh, the Indian prime-minister, said: “Those aggressors are from abroad, the attacks were planned outside India, but all we need to do is calm down; don’t let them take an advantage of our panic.”

Motorcycle Gang Jailed For Life For Hell’s Angel Murder

Murdered- Gerry Tobin

Murdered- Gerry Tobin

By Emma Smith

Seven members of a motorcycle gang found guilty of murdering a Hell’s Angel were sentenced to life today.

The men who belong to rival motorcycle club the Outlaws were sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court after being convicted of shooting Gerry Tobin on August 12 last year.

Tobin was killed instantly after being shot in the head as he rode along the M40 on his way home from the annual Hell’s Angel Bulldog Bash in Warwickshire.

The gang received over 190 years behind bars in total.

Simon Turner, 41, received a minimum of 30 years for murder and two firearm offences.

Sean Crichton, 44, the gang’s president, was convicted of the same charges and will serve a minimum of 28 years and six months.

Dane Garside, 42, was sentenced to a minimum of 27 years for the same offences.

Malcolm Bull, 53, was convicted of murder and possessing a shotgun and will serve a minimum of 25 years and Dean Taylor, 47, will serve a minimum of 30 years for the same charges.

Karl Garside ,47, was convicted of murder and will spend at least 26 years behind bars and Ian Cameron, 45, will serve a minimum of 25 years.

As he sentenced, Mr. Justice Treaty told the defendants how shocked he had been at the nature of the murder. He said: “This was an appalling murder.

“A totally innocent man was executed with a firearm in broad daylight on a busy motorway for no reason other than he belonged to a different motorcycle club than yours.

“The utter pointlessness of what you did makes his murder more shocking.”

During the trial the jury heard how the seven men had “scouted” Tobin for three days prior to the murder.

The vehicle which was used to fire the gun from was taken to a remote country lane and burnt by the gang after the murder.

Mr. Justice Treaty added that the scouting had been done by the gang with murder in their hearts.

Rivalry between the two gangs originates from the 1960s, after a series of murders in North America.

Warwickshire is regarded by the Outlaws as their territory and so the location of last year’s festival was thought to have been a deliberate provocation by the Hell’s Angels.

Around one hundred members of the Outlaws gang waited outside the court, which had to be patrolled by armed police officers.

Prosecutor Timothy Raggatt QC described Tobin as “a man of good character” and a “soft target”.

Mother lets 14 year old daughter have sex in family home

Balfour and his 14-year old lover

By Faith Orr

A mum’s horrific decision to allow her 14-year old daughter to have sex with her boyfriend, 22, was slated as ‘outrageous’ last night.

The mother, who cannot be named for legal reasons, allowed Daniel Balfour to have underage sex with the teenager in her home. She claims this was to protect her child.

The situation was slammed by politicians as Balfour stood trial for his crimes.

The SNP’s South of Scotland MSP, Christine Grahame, said: “This is completely outrageous. There is a major difference to not knowing and consenting to your 14-year old daughter having sex. This girl is in need of care and protection from her mother’s values.”

She added: “The male has been dealt with by the courts…if he was 15 then it could perhaps be looked at another way but he is 22 and deserves to be punished.”

Balfour admitted to the court of having had underage sex with the girl several times over a period of 6 months. It also emerged in court that Balfour was permitted to stay at the schoolgirls house three or four nights a week with the full knowledge of her mother.

This was even accepted by prosecutors who admitted that the relationship was entirely ‘consensual’ and that the mother had always allowed things to happen under her roof.

The mum revealed that she tried to stop the relationship on many occasions but when her actions failed she permitted it to take place in the family home.

She accepted that it was not legal but defending her actions the mum hit back in a letter to a local newspaper: “As many mother’s know, you can’t lock a 14-year old in their room until they are 16. After finding out the lad was 22, I did all I could to get them to end their relationship, as did her father.

“It was a joint decision to let the relationship continue, not just mine. I would rather know where my daughter is and who she is with than have her running around the streets getting into trouble.”

While many have condemned the mother’s actions Martin Henry, an anti-sex abuse campaigner, said: “This woman did what she thought was reasonable to protect her child. She tried to keep it as much under her control as possible because better the devil you know than the devil you don’t. She knew it was illegal but her focus was on making sure her daughter was safe.”

Balfour, of Berwick-upon-Tweed, pleaded guilty at Duns Sheriff Court to having underage sex with a 14-year old girl between April 1 and October 6. Sentence has been deferred until January 6 for background reports and Balfour has been placed on the sex offenders register for a provisional period of five years.

I.D cards launched for foreign nationals.

the-new-id-cardBy Andy Hunter

The Home office opened applications for the controversial new Identity Cards yesterday (27th November). All foreign nationals will have to apply for the mandatory scheme. The first cards will be issued to foreign nationals either applying to stay in the UK as students or those who are married to a British national.

Over the next 3 weeks enrollment centers will open in Cardiff, Glasgow and Liverpool as well as Northern Ireland, Sheffield and Solihill. Whether or not a foreign national will be granted the right to stay depends on an “Australian-style points system”. Home Secretary, Jacqui Smith said; “The Australian-style points system will ensure only those we need – and no more – can come here. It is also flexible, allowing us to raise or lower the bar according to the needs of business and taking population trends into account.”

Tim Cowen, Director of communications at NPC services said; “Employers will, quite rightly, still need to make sure their systems for spotting forgeries are robust, but the biometric cards will cut down on fraud and make it easier for us to do this…Crucially, it will also help those who genuinely have the right to work in the UK get employment quickly – since it will be easier to check their identity and get them working.”

Protesters have been speaking out about the proposed national identity database and have been claiming that the new cards are the “thin end of the wedge” since the law enabling the scheme was first passed in 2006.

Originally billed as an anti-terrorism tool, after two years of this idea being ridiculed by protesters, the focus of today’s press release is personal identity safety. Jacquie Smith says; “”Issuing ID cards to overseas students should assist in the reduction of identity fraud”. Though many protesters believe that fake cards will be available illegally within days.

There have been may claims that the I.D cards will erode civil liberties, One anti-ID card post on Yahoo! Answers said; “The only purpose for issuing ID cards is for control of the people. Nothing else”.

Plans are for all foreign nationals resident in the UK who are either moving to the U.K or applying for their stay to be extended to have a card in the next 3 years.

Platini calls for ‘Financial fair Play’

By John Stewart

UEFA President Michel Platini today told sports ministers that football’s European governing body needs the power to introduce rules on the finances for clubs in European competitions.

Speaking in Biarritz, France, Platini said that UEFA had no intention of interfering with rules for European domestic leagues but wants to ensure “financial fair play” in UEFA’s own competitions, such as the Champion’s League and the UEFA Cup.

Platini said: “What UEFA can do – and we are thinking seriously about doing it – is to reinforce and improve our system for granting licences for our own club competitions.

“It is in this way that we wish to contribute to financial fair play, and start responding to the expectations of the various parties involved in our sport.”

He added: “Fiscal rules in Europe are extremely diverse…and the systems of licensing, control and financial management of football clubs involve a myriad of concepts and different regulations.

If this move was agreed it could eventually mean that English Premier League clubs Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool, who regularly qualify for the Champion’s League, must satisfy UEFA regulations on debts and even much they spend on wages.

Platini also called for a halt on the trafficking of young footballers across Europe and a ban on international transfers of players under the age of 18.

“Today, in the world and in Europe, there is trafficking of children. I will not mince my words because the situation is serious.

“What else do you call a phenomenon whereby children aged 12 or 13 are torn away from their environment and culture to join a business in return for payment? This is what is happening in football.

“Together with FIFA, we are studying remedies, but measures can already be taken to ban the international transfer of minors, even within the European Union.

“In numerous European states, strict rules exist which prevent clubs – on threat of sporting sanctions – poaching [young players] from their rivals’ training centres. However, these rules do not exist at European Union level.

“It is in this context that we would like to be able to ban international transfers of players under the age of 18 within the EU.

“This is not to create an obstacle to the free movement of labour – it is an urgent matter relating to helping youngsters in danger.”

British Sports Minister, Gerry Sutcliffe, who was in Biarritz to hear Platini’s speech, strongly opposes Platini’s propositions, as does the Premier League, presumably with the belief that such sanctions could harm their club’s successes in Europe and, for teams like Arsenal, in particular, who are renowned for nurturing young foreign players into top class performers, preventing them from bringing future stars to England.

However, such a move could prove beneficial to clubs in smaller, less financially viable domestic leagues, such as the SPL’s Celtic and Rangers.
