SOLIDARITY WITH THE PEOPLE IN THE MIDDLE EAST

By Margarita Dimitrova

In a second rally for this week called by Stop the War Coalition hundreds are to gather both in Edinburgh and Glasgow in solidarity with the people of the Middle East.

Founded 10 years ago, Stop the War Coalition is a UK-wide campaign that calls for the support of the British public to the people of the Middle East, and an end to UK foreign policy that supports and arms dictators.

On Tuesday this week over 200 people gathered together in Edinburgh to show their solidarity, while in a parallel protest in Glasgow the number of participants was doubled despite the short notice for the event.

Organisers explain that although a lot of people are strongly against British and US foreign policies, many of them feel like there is nothing they could do personally to change the situation. But with the recent events in Tunisia and Egypt people all over the world have started to believe that their voice can be heard and make an impact.

Participants in today’s protest in Edinburgh point as an achievable and realistic goal for them to make clear that people in this country are not in support of the government’s foreign policy and allowing the sale of arms to tyrants who use it against their own people.

Depending on the impact the protests will have today, the Stop the War Coalition has confirmed it is planning more in the following weeks.

US: Who Gets the H1N1 Vaccine First

by Margarita Dimitrova

According to a Harvard School of Public Health survey, two thirds of parents in the United States have failed to find the H1N1 vaccine for their children. From the total of 36 million hard- to – find doses that have been distributed in New York City, Wall Street firms Goldman Sachs and Citigroup received together 14, 000 doses, while priority groups such as children and pregnant women are left empty- handed.

After receiving their share of the state’s shipment from the public -run Centers for Disease Control, the New York City government health authorities are the ones who send the vaccines to the banks whose employers are bound by the CDC to distribute the vaccine only to population deemed to be at high risk. But the truth is that the CDC has no power to enforce how the vaccine is doled out.

Mary Kate Cary a reporter from US News and World Reports one of the leading news magazines in America particularly known for being distinguished from its counterparts for focusing mainly on political, economic, health and education stories, admitted earlier this week while covering the story fr the magazine:  ”Believe me, as a parent of a high risk child who had a heck of a time getting her a shot last week- I think this is outrageous.”

Within the debates some are suggesting that the banks should have donated their allocated vaccines, like Morgan Stanley who received 1,000 doses of the vaccine for its New York and suburban offices, but the company turned over its entire supply to local hospitals when it found out it received shipments before some areas hospitals.

Health professionals say giving the vaccine to these large businesses is a great avenue for vaccinating people.

Carol Lynne a member of the national collaborative grassroots effort called The Tax Day Tea Party who gained vast popularity over the past year organizing protests against the out of control government spending is also torn choosing in between the two sides of the story, asking the questions: ”Are we seeing our first dose of rationing from publicly run health care? Or is this anger being misdirected and just another attempt to create manufactured anger against Wall Street and large employers?”

Most likely the right answers to these could only be released after experiencing the results of whether the H1N1 vaccine has been distributed efficiently. Although one thing is known for sure everyone in New York wants to be a part of this.

Sky and Microsoft dish free deal

By Margarita Dimitrova

xBox 360

xBox 360

Britain’s biggest pay- TV broadcaster Sky TV is making 24 channels available over the Microsoft xBox 360 console without the need for a dish.

This was set to be a revolution representing Sky’s move onto a gaming console for the first time. The Xbox brings true on demand to subscribers television and for other people the chance to get movies, entertainment and sports onto their television without a satellite installation.

Well…terrestrial channels are not available and people wanting to see Sky Sports or Sky movies channels have to pay more. And also programmes are not shown in HD, but that is because broadcast speeds in Britain are simply not good enough.

Put those minor issues aside we, costumers can agree with digital media analysts saying this move is a big step forward for both companies, Sky and Microsoft. Because this is what matters for us, isn’t it?

There is just one little problem for the great revolution of the live satellite TV- it did not work. ”October 27 that’s the date when you’ll be able to watch TV from Sky on your xBox 360” announced Graeme Boyd xBox community manager for Microsoft Europe via Twitter days before the event.next was an official announcement the following week. Unfortunately it was a bit delayed.

“The service has been suspended due to an unforeseen technical issue”. Sky said in a statement. “Sky Player engineers are hard at work to resolve the problem. We expect to have the full service available on Wednesday”.

Microsoft has said that it is “investigating” the technical problems delaying the launch of Sky Player on Xbox Live.

Unfortunately still the service has been down most of the time and clearly both Sky and Microsoft are overwhelmed by the demand.

Now, this is revolutionary.
