Deathwing ready to burn previous sales records

As the developers of the worlds largest mmorpg game set themselves up for ripping apart their game world in the games latest expansion “Cataclysm”, many others get ready to stand out in the cold of night on the 7th of December. These die hard fans will be helping set new records in the gaming industry records that World of Warcraft still holds . The game that sits in 11th on game informers “The top 200 games of All Time” set it’s first record with the release of it’s first expansion “World of Warcraft the Burning Crusade” which sold  2.4 million copies in the first 24 hours  and 3.5 in it’s first month, gaining it the title of best selling PC game of 2007 in north America and Europe. This record would stand untill later the following year when the games second expansion hit the shelf  selling 2.8 million copies in the first 24 hours, making it the fastest selling computer game of all time.

This mammoth game is set once again to break it’s own records with this latest expansion. “World of Warcraft Cataclysm” Mike Morhaime CEO and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment said that “Cataclsym includes the best content we’ve ever created for World of Warcraft. It’s not just an expansion , but a re-creation of the original Azeroth”. This overhaul of many of the games feature has led to many old players who left the game due to “lack of content” feel that they would be returning to a game worthy of their attention. When asked, one gamer said ” I felt as if  I’d run out of things to do in the game , but with the new expansion I’ve found that the goal of getting ready for the expansion has removed much of the tedium I felt towards the game”. another also said that they would “re-sub”  when the expansion was released, but not before.

For a game that’s not been released yet it’s already caused considerable hype in social media circles – such as youtube and twitter – along with many blog sites covering all the data from the on-going beta test. This considerable hype has led to the expectation of new sales records on the games release on the 7th December  2010.
