Afghan Parliament calls for US soldier to be tried publicly

The Afghan parliament has issued a statement demanding that the US soldier responsible for the civillian killings on Sunday should be tried in Afghanistan.

In the statement they said,  “We seriously demand and expect that the government of the United States punish the culprits and try them in a public trial before the people of Afghanistan.”

Both the US and British army are on high alert after fears of counter attacks. Taliban militants posted on their website that they would “take revenge from the invaders and the savage murderers for every single martyr”.

The US soldier broke into civillian homes, murdering 16 people including 9 children and 3 women yesterday in an action that Afghan President Hamid Karzai has called ‘unforgivable.’ It is believed the soldier then returned to his nearby base in Kandahar and turned himself in to the US authorities.
