Edinburgh Capitals host defending league champion Cardiff Devils tonight at Murrayfield in hope of ending a two-year losing streak.

The Capitals last win against the Devils was 725 days ago in a 4-3 home win and Capitals captain Mike D’Orazio believes “now is the ideal time” to win against an out of form Devils team.

Edinburgh suffered a heavy loss last Saturday to Braehead Clan but won on Sunday against Dundee Stars.

The Sunday win showed a ruthless Edinburgh Capitals performance as they capitalised on an undisciplined Dundee Stars.

The Capitals scored three goals in a five-minute purple patch as they outnumbered the Stars on a five to three power play.  The three goals helped the Capitals to overturn a one-goal deficit.

They scored first in the second period before the Stars staged a fightback.  With the game teetering on a knife edge and excellent team goal had D’Orazio set up Mike Cazzola for an easy score at the near post.

With the score at 5-3, the Capitals will look to carry forward the last two wins.  Mike D’Orazio said: “Two wins at home in a row give us confidence without out a doubt. Right now we are going through some tough times and any positives we can pull out of our game we will.”

The Devils have won just a single game since the early November win over Edinburgh and D’Orazio believes that Edinburgh can win: “Cardiff is a very good hockey club. They have a mature group of guys that know how to win. It will be tough to beat them but anything can happen in the game of hockey. It is possible.”

Asked about a potential third home win in a row Mike replied: “It would send a message that we are a lot better team at home, but we are still at the bottom of the standings by a long shot, we need to prove ourselves a little more before that really happens.”

Edinburgh Capitals host Cardiff Devils tonight at Murrayfield Ice Rink, the puck drops at 7:30pm and tickets are available through Edinburgh Capitals.
