Edinburgh Wolves Women’s team are preparing for a new season and say training during the winter months helps them get mentally ready for a tough season ahead.

The women’s team have been playing in the British American Football Association Sapphire Series since 2015. They have shown improvement each year and are about to begin their second year in Division 1.

Audrey Gunn, who started playing last year, believes that the team has shown improvement over the offseason. She said: “We have had a good rookie season and the defence has improved, amazingly scoring more points than the offence.”

She decided to take up American Football after seeing an advert on gumtree. She said: “I saw the advert on gumtree and wanted to try something new and challenging.”

When asked about why she plays, Gunn said: “There is such a good social community within the team and the organisation. There is a real team ethic in the sport, you train to not let your teammates down.”

The set-up of the Women’s league involves playing teams across the UK and this is one of the other reasons Audrey enjoys playing.

She said: ‘‘It’s not just our team you play across the UK and make friends everywhere you go.

‘‘If anyone is interested in playing I would tell them to come down and get involved. We have a great atmosphere and everyone is welcoming.

‘‘I was a beginner last year and still learn new things. It really doesn’t matter what you know we will have you playing in no time.”

Edinburgh Wolves Women’s American Football are recruiting now and train every Sunday at Queensferry Recreational Club 11 am until 1 pm.

All you need is a mouth guard, boots (plastic studs/blades), sports clothing (shorts/T-shirt) and a water bottle- all other kit is provided by the club.
