The Proclaimers Team Up with Hibernian FC to Support NHS Lothian Staff

One of Scotland’s most successful bands,

The special edition of the song, which has been pressed for the first time on 7” clear green Vinyl to match Hibernian club colours, aims to raise money for NHS Lothian frontline staff and is due to be released on the 29 Jan, 2021 – with preorders available from 3 Dec, 2020.

In addition to the vinyl, the Scottish duo is also releasing 100 limited-edition signed copies which can be ordered through Hibernian Direct.  It is hoped that the funds from these copies will allow for a well-being plan for NHS staff, to address the long-term physical and psychological effects of the pandemic.

Craig and Charlie Reid, who make up the The Proclaimers, said: “We’re very happy to be supporting NHS Lothian during this challenging time. The NHS is very loved by both of us and we have much reason to be grateful for it.”

Sunshine on Leith is a club anthem for Hibernian FC, and so the club suspects that fans of the football club will snap up the limited-edition copy.

Club Captain, David Gray, said that the song makes him nostalgic about the “proper hairs-on-the back-of-your-neck moments” from the Scottish Cup final in 2016, and that the album is a “fantastic gesture”.

Gray added: “Our NHS heroes have been brilliant during the pandemic – but even before then we were wearing the ‘Thank you NHS’ message on our shirts with pride.”

Jane Ferguson, Director of Edinburgh and Lothians Health Foundation, said that the charity is “delighted” with the idea.

She added: “The funds will help our amazing NHS Lothian Staff as they respond to the ongoing challenges of the Coronavirus pandemic, and also provide a fast and flexible response to any urgent needs for our NHS Lothian colleagues.”
