Scotland’s climate journey is Everyman’s climate journey

A documentary on Scotland’s fight against the climate crisis will be screened for free at a cinema in Edinburgh’s city centre.

The Scotland: Our Climate Journey documentary, which is open to all, will provide an insight into a nation coming together to tackle the climate crisis.

Presenting the documentary at the Everyman Cinema in St James Centre, the Royal Scottish Geographical Society (RSGS) hopes it will draw attention to the progress that Scotland is making towards battling climate change.

Ross McKenzie, Deputy Chief Executive Officer at the RSGS said: “COP27 failed to deliver the urgent action needed, and we wanted to inspire people and remind them what can happen when people come together determined to make a change. We hope the film provides motivation to embolden, excite and empower all the people and organisations who are trying to do the right thing.”

On their website, the society said by enacting solutions, technological innovation, an engaged NGO and youth activism, and the will for a fair and just transition into greener and more sustainable practices, Scotland already possesses the tools and expertise needed to fight the crisis.

Mark Beishuizen, a graduate editor working in film, said cinemas are some of the best ways to influence people and tell them a story to remember.

He added: “It’s great that Scotland as one of the leading nations in climate change policy, is drawing attention to this subject combining it with Scottish cinema.”

First premiered during COP26, narrates Scotland’s climate journey through the past, present and future. Laying out how far the country has come, and how far it still has to go.

As one of the leading nations in climate change policy, Scotland is a key player in tackling the climate emergency. Bringing these issues to light in cinema will encourage spectators to engage with the panel in the following Q&A, analysing how we can do better as a cohort.

Narrated by industry leaders, activists and community organisers across Scotland, the film highlights the differences we all can continue to make.

The film uncovers the journey of policy, industries, communities, farmers, and scientists towards greener operations.

Leaving viewers with a sense of hope, inspiration, and renewed strength for the fight ahead, the film takes a refreshingly positive approach to tackling the climate crisis.

The message is clear — Scotland’s climate journey is everyman’s climate journey.
