Edinburgh Napier Women’s rugby start the season strong

“We are a much more confident team” says senior Edinburgh Napier Women’s rugby player.

It has been a strong start to the season so far for Edinburgh Napier Women’s Rugby team which has them top of the Tier 2 table. Their 24-12 win over Glasgow 2XV continued a promising beginning to the season, showing the togetherness and new defensive prowess of the side.

The season started with a strong 25-10 win over St Andrew’s 2XV in Meggetland, in a game where several of the squad’s new members made their debuts.

A 39-29 win over Robert Gordon 1XV showed the togetherness and scoring capability in the side after multiple injuries left them with a side of players playing out of position and diminishing the travelling squad down to 17 players

Dundee 1XV travelled to Meggetland next, coming away with a 31-12 win. A big win on paper, but with the full context of the game, it was evident that Napier have been working on the defensive side of their game.

Edinburgh Napier second row Caitlin Slaymaker made it clear that there’s more of a togetherness in the squad this. She said: “This year everyone is confident in who they are and what their position is.

“Last year we were winning games by a lot more points, but this year we feel much more like a team where we all contribute – we’re more confident in our abilities.”

Next up for Napier is a visit from Aberdeen 1XV, a game which Slaymaker is confident of winning.
